”Beyond Skiing gives great support during the races”
Beyond Skiing provides a lot of positive energy for the Swedish athletes. That’s what Calle Halvfarsson says, who came in sixth in the men’s 15 km cross-country:
“I could hear the cheering from the Beyond Skiing crowd right throughout the race. It was fantastic.”
Beyond Skiing is a network of about 320 companies, mainly from Dalarna, created around the drive and enthusiasm provided by the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun 2015.
And businesspeople from the different companies have been arriving in groups in Val di Fiemme these last few days. They’re staying in the beautiful resort of Moena and have an exciting programme planned for their stay, including a talk by the former Swedish ski team manager Joakim Abrahamsson. Of course they’ll be following all the events live as well and get the opportunity to meet and deepen their contacts with each other in the meantime.
The Beyond Skiing crowd are highly visible as they enter the ski stadium in their yellow jerkins. Cross-country skier Calle Halvfarsson is one proof of that.
Calle says that during the 15 km race he caught sight of his mother Maja in the crowd along the opening straight. And after that the cheering of the Beyond Skiing crowd spurred him on the for the rest of the way – it was a real winner.
”You could really hear them right through the race. And you could hardly miss their yellow jerkins both at the end of the first lap and at the finish. We really appreciate them coming and cheering us on. It means a lot to us”, says Calle who actually lives in Falun – so local people will be pinning their hopes on him in the Championships in 2015.
One of the members of the Beyond Skiing network that is in Val di Fiemme is Lars Wiklund who runs the company Pure Water Scandinavia in Falun:
“I made my mind up a year ago that I’d be coming to till Val di Fiemme if Calle Halvfarsson was selected for the team. And he was and here I am – which is great because I’ve known Calle since he was a kid. It’s really fun to be here and see Calle when he’s in such fine form”, says Lars.
”I really appreciate Beyond Skiing organizing this kind of trip”, he says.
So tell us why your company is a member of Beyond Skiing?
“I always try to support whatever’s good for Falun as a community, as it’s the town I live and work in. I’m convinced that the 2015 WSC will mean such a lot for Falun and for Dalarna.
In what way if the 2015 World Championships good for Dalarna?
”The international skiing events that are held at Lugnet often work as door-openers. I travel quite a lot in my job and I was recently in Vasa in Finland, for example. The Finns that I met there knew of Falun as a fine skiing resort and that of course made it much easier to work together with them there. That’s just one example of the importance of skiing for Falun.”
